Viruses that live by updates, can die by updates

In an amusing twist of fate, the folks who run many of the popular IRC servers have succeeded in installing an uninstaller on one of the web sites that the Fizzer worm uses to update itself.

This will cause the virus to remove all traces of itself if it goes to the update site and executes the code.

A message on a mailing list provided the basic information yesterday, and there is an article and commentary on SlashDot.

There is some disagreement over whether this is a "good thing", since the same tactic of running unauthorized code on the users computer is being employed by the cleaner as being employed by the virus.
