Microsoft abandons OpenGL for DirectX

Not that this is a surprise, but Microsoft is abandoning its seat on the OpenGL Architecture Review Board(ARB).

Also not surprisingly, they are doing so as to "focus our energies on improving and evolving our own Windows graphics platform." In other words, they've learned enough from the standard and now it is time to separate from the rest of the world and lock everybody in to using their platform as they have tried to do with so many things.

Frankly, there's been discussion at SIGGRAPH and elsewhere over the last year that having Microsoft on the ARB was actually hampering forward movement, so perhaps this is a good thing.
