OS X software package groups join forces

A press release from Metapkg.org announces an alliance between Fink, Gentoo, and OpenDarwin to work together to provide the best opportunity for users of the Macintosh operating system to have access to UNIX and open-source projects.

Hopefully, the alignment with "raise the pie higher," as opposed to diluting the benefits of the various approaches. It seems to me this is a reasonable opportunity, as long as they each decide to keep their own unique software managers and build mechanisms, while working together at the pieces that make the software run on OS X.
