Internet slowly returns to Iraq

A good techno-political article on Wired about the Iraqi internet service provider and its trials and tribulations through the regime and bringing the internet back on line in the country.

Particularly interesting was a quote from the head of the organization who said in an interview last month that the internet is "a gate to the 21st century for Iraqis who have been living in a dark age." Normally, I'd write off the "a gate" as just being a non-English speaker's statement for a gateway. However, if you read the rest of the article, the leader is portrayed as an opportunistic Saddam sympathizer and as having collaborated in the monitoring of internet access.
