Congressional proposal would bring BALANCE to DMCA


Congresswoman Lofgren (D-CA) has proposed a new bill to congress aimed at bringing fair use back to the United States Copyright system.

Although I'm not a lawyer, I did read the whole thing, and it certainly moves things in the right direction.

In particular, it addresses a purchasers ability to do reasonable things to things they buy (like make archival copies, and play things back, etc.). It also restores the right to circumvent copy protection in cases of the above.

I'm sure it will lose, unfortunately, because the lobbies are just too strong, but you should go to the Links section (click at the top of this page) and write to your congresspeople and senators to get them to support this.
